The MGDS program highlights the need for specialized academic knowledge to be developed in the field of gender and development studies, as well as the need to integrate gender analysis and gender relation perspectives with other fields of study. Areas of particular concern include gender, technology and economic development, globalization and human rights, migration and rural transformation, trade and enterprise, culture and gender relations, development and health, plus the sexual and reproductive rights of women. The MGDS program is linked through international networks to other academic institutions, non-government and human rights organizations, those promoting gender equality, sustainable natural resources management and socially equitable development in the region.
The program is two years (22 months) in duration, and is divided into four semesters. The first semester lasts from August to December and the second from January to May.
